Measuring dual career motivation among German student-athletes using the Student Athletes’ Motivation Toward Sports and Academics Questionnaire

Abstract With the 2012 EU guidelines on dual careers (DC), DC research gained increasing awareness in Europe focussing particularly student-athletes’ motivation. The Student Athletes’ Motivation toward Sports and Academics Questionnaire (SAMSAQ), arguably most prominent instrument this area, has been used various cross-cultural studies assessing present investigation contributes to discourse aiming (1) adapt SAMSAQ for German context adolescent secondary school student-athletes, (2) evaluate pre-version. A sample of 208 student-athletes (52.4% females, mean age = 17.4 years, 49.5% at squad level) three Elite Sport Schools participated study. was split into two parts. First, adapted tested. In second part, first pre-version revised. series exploratory factor analyses were applied verify structure both pre-versions. Eight different models based item removal compared.
